A quick review of the new Apple MacBook Air (2018)

Kim Korshunov, Editor-in-Chief of the Miracle of Technology website, attended an Apple special event in New York. As part of the presentation, they showed a new MacBook Ai – many have been waiting for this laptop for a long time. What's the new?


The MacBook Air case is made of 100% recycled aluminum. Compared with the previous model, the laptop has become 10% thinner (thickness 15.6 mm, weight 1.25 kg).

The novelty was equipped with a 13.3-inch Retina-display with a resolution of 2560 × 1600 pixels and a 16:10 aspect ratio. The screen is made by technology IPS. As for hardware, there is an eighth generation Intel Core i5 processor with a clock frequency of 1.6 GHz (Turbo Boost up to 3.6 GHz), 8 GB of LPDDR3 RAM and a 128/256 GB PCIe SSD drive. It is possible to upgrade to 16 GB of RAM and 1.5 TB SSD.

The laptop received a large touchpad with Force Touch support, which recognizes the pressing force and gives a tactile response. A third-generation butterfly keyboard is installed, each key in which is equipped with a separate low-power LED that provides more accurate keyboard backlighting.

There is also a Touch ID fingerprint scanner that allows you to unlock a computer and pay for purchases using Apple Pay. To support Touch ID, the Apple T2 chip is installed in MacBook Air, which provides a high level of security. It checks for hacking software when the computer boots and encrypts all data stored on the SSD drive.

Thanks to the two USB Type-C with Thunderbolt support, you can connect to a laptop 5K-displays, external video cards or transfer data at speeds up to 40 Gbps

The laptop can work without recharging up to 12 hours when working on the Internet and up to 13 hours when watching movies thanks to a 30-watt battery. It is worth noting that the MacBook Air is equipped with stereo speakers and support for the function "Hi, Siri" for voice requests to Siri – for example, to search for files and launch applications.

MacBook Air powered by macOS Mojave works. The basic version of 128 GB can be purchased at a price of 104,990 rubles, a 256 GB model will cost 120,990 rubles. Home sales in Russia is scheduled for November 7.
